Check This Out - A New Challenge

I love participating in challenges - even if it's harder during the school year to keep up with them. I wanted to share a new challenge with all of you that comes from a few FABULOUS blogs that I follow.

Courtney (One Day at a Time) came up with this clever idea for a monthly challenge - if you've never been to Courtney's blog, you've gotta check it out.....I just love her videos sharing all of her crafty finds. My blog pal, Kelley (My Front Porch), is one of the challenge hostesses along with some other uber-creative gals - wait to you see Kelley's take on the challenge. This month's challenge is to create a card or scrapbook page using something gathered from your mail - see I told you it was clever!! You have until October 9th to complete your card and link it up on Courtney's blog for the chance to win a $25 gift certificate to Papertrey Ink - this seals the deal for your participation, right?!

Thought I'd share this with you - not much card making going on tonight :( The good news is that there was a simple fix to the furnace issue - the valve release gas to the pilot light was shut off by one of the guys who came to give me an estimate (who knows!!). The company that's installing the new furnace stopped (at no charge, wahooo!!) and got it nice & toasty!! good thing - it's supposed to drop in the low 40s tonight!

It's been a long day - phew!! The doctor confirmed a lovely crack in my toe - ugh...there goes my plans for wearing my awesome fall shoes. The good news is that it's already healing nicely. By my calculations, I should be back in heals on November 4th....but who's counting?!

For now, I'm off to finish some reading for school tomorrow. Hopefully I won't fall asleep mid-chapter like the past few nights. I thought I'd quickly share the card I made for the recent Embellish Magazine submission call.

Here's the challenge:

And here's my take:

I went with light blue & fell in love with this color combo....I think I know the colors of this year's Christmas card :)

Ink - Versamark, Fresh Snow (PTI), Walnut Stain Distress Ink (Tim Holtz for Ranger)
Paper - Kraft, Soft Sky, Real Red, Chocolate Chip

Oh Baby - It's a reject! :)

Here's a card that I recently submitted for publication, but it didn't make the cut. That's okay - I really like it and this way I won't need to make another when I need a baby card!

I fell in love with this pattern paper as soon as I saw it. I have 3/4 of the sheet left, but it'll be hard for me to use....especially since I'm still participating in my paper hoarders challenge :)

Complete 100 cards/projects before purchasing new paper: 82 cards/projects down - 18 to go!!!

Hope you're having a warm day....it's really cooling down here! I'm purchasing a new furnace - mine's ancient! It'll be about two-three weeks before they'll be installing it. I made the down payment this morning and came home to turn mine on to take the chill out of the house....guess what doesn't want to turn on! UGH!! I guess I'll be baking over the next few days :)

Details:
Stamp - Bethany Elegant WordArt
Ink - Tim Holtz Distress Ink Walnut Stain
Paper - Very Vanilla, Pink Pirouette, Soft Sky, Basic Black, vellum (Stampin Up); Urban Prairie/Bountiful (Basic Grey)

Christmas Organizer - thanks Lisa Johnson!!

Don't you just love when you see a fabulous project that you can't wait to create one for yourself? Me, too!! And that was the case on Friday when I saw Lisa Johnson's (Poppy Paperie) Christmas list project. I had some mini composition books on hand (got them from Walmart last year), so I knew this would be my project for my monthly get-together on Saturday.

Here's my take on Lisa's idea:

Front cover:

Inside front cover - I made the envelope to hold receipts.....now will I stick them in there?????:

Back inside cover - this is perfect for those weekly Michael's and JoAnn's coupons!!:

One of the tabs I added using half of a circle punch. My tabs included gifts, shopping, and cards:

Side view:

I actually made two yesterday - even though the first one took me forever...I can't talk, listen, think, and craft at the same time! This one is going to my mom. She likes more traditional Christmas colors, so I know that I'll gently hear how the colors aren't really Christmasy - she'd prefer Real Red and Glorious Green rather than the Riding Hood Red and Olive Green that I used. Mine is black, cream, and Riding Hood Red using the damask stocking. I'll post a photo of it later :) For now, I need to finish reading The Lightning Thief - my students are beginning Greek Mythology Mania this week and I'd like to use this novel with them. It's a super cute book - think Harry Potter meets Greek Mythology....and the movie comes out in February (I think) in case you're like me and have to read the book before seeing the movie.

Details:
Stamps - Stocking Prints and Signature Christmas (Papertrey Ink)
Ink - Riding Hood Red, Old Olive, Tuxedo Black (Memento), Tea Dye Distress Ink (Tim Holtz)
Paper - Very Vanilla, Riding Hood Red, Old Olive, dp - Jolly & Bright Mini Dots (Heidi Grace Designs for Fiskars)
Accessories - rub on letters (Creative Keepsakes), red grosgrain ribbon (Offray), button, black embroidery floss, dimensionals, mini composition book, pen

Enabler Alert!!

Did you know that the greenbeanbaby stamps are now available at Stamping Bella? Ellia, the designer of greenbeanbaby, is the talented artist who designed the image on my blog header. Wait til you see her stamps - can you say AH-DOR-AH-BLE!!!

Fall...tis the season!

I'm a clutz. I bump into things and trip all the time. Last spring I fell (while walking) and severly sprained my ankle. I've been so happy because it's finally healed, and I've been able to wear all my cute shoes.

I also believe in karma. Do something nice and something nice will happen to you. Be a stinker and expect some stink in return.

so......my mom stopped the other night for a visit. She wanted to try out my new nail polishes (OPI's Birthday Babe & Private Jet). Being the sweet daughter I am, I relentlessly teased her about her feet and how 'weird-looking' they were. Less than 12 hours later, I dropped my full aluminum water bottle on my toe as I was leaving for school. OWWWW!!! Guess who probably broke her toe?! So now I'm sporting some lovely tape around my bruised & swollen toe.....serves me right :(

I thought it would be appropriate to make a fall card. I just love this dp from the DCWV Doodlin' Around stack. Just paired it with some simple stickers from American Crafts.

Hope you're enjoying the first few days of Autumn (let's ban the season's other name for now) and spreading some good karma in the world :)

Details:
Stamps - none
Ink - Distress Ink Walnut Stain
Paper - Chocolate Chip, kraft, Orange (from scrap); dp - DCWV Doodlin' Around stack

Rubber Romance - Calgon Take Me Away

I love bubble baths & lotions, don't you? Some of my favorites come from Philosophy - I love how the bottles provide the recipe for the actual item that the bubble bath scent is based on. I also love giving little bath sets as gifts. I mean who can't appreciate that.
Here's a little set that I created using the gorgeous Babs from Rubber Romance:

I just love this image! Babs is perfect for little spa gift sets. I dazzled her up a bit with some glitter and glossy accents. I hope you can see some of it in this close-up.

To create my set, I simply wrapped each bottle of BeautiControl products with some pattern paper (from the DCWV Doodlin' Around stack) and trimmed with a scalloped strip of purple cardstock. I just used my ATG gun and the thicker dp adhered well. I then created a sleeve to keep the bottle of lotion and body wash together. I cut a strip of kraft and ran it through my crimper, added some dp, and created a ring the size of the two bottles together. Remember to place the image atop the seam - yep, I forgot at first....sometimes, I get excited to see the finished product :)
Right now there's a sketch challenge going on at the Rubber Romance blog!

The challenge is going on through September 27th, so I hope you get a chance to play along. I'm hoping to have a card based on the sketch in the next few days...my mom came for dinner tonight so I didn't have much time for stamping.
Details:
Ink - Tuxedo Black (Memento); Copics
Paper - white, kraft, purple; dp - DCWV (Doodlin' Around stack)
Accessories - paper crimper, Nestabilities circles & small scallop circle, Glossy Accents, glitter Gelly Roll pen, scallop edge punch

I'm Home From the Moon

A few days ago I asked, "What's a good day for you?"

well....

What's a not-so-good day for you?

For me:
- Having a sinus headache...ugh - allergies!!
- Having my tv that stopped working last week, returned to working after I bought a new one, fail to work again now that I returned the new tv to Best Buy (Murphy's Law!!)
- Seeing my neighbor in spandex (<-sorry I know this isn't so nice, but I can't take it anymore....I want a law banning it unless it's an undergarment!) Actually I didn't have that bad of a day. I try to laugh these little things off because I know I'm so blessed. Yet we all have 'those' kind of days which led me to my 2nd card for the Moxie Fab Household challenge.

I just love these appliances!!! And how 'bout this color combo - wahoo - I'm lovin' it!! I thought this would be a perfect card for someone who needs a little cheering up. I, however, might send it to my mother who has an infatuation with vacuums - she has more than any one person should....darn infomercials!!

Details:
Stamps: Vintage Appliances (MyGrafico), Houndstooth background (Hero Arts)
Ink: StazOn black; Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Walnut Stain); Copics (B05, 100, C-3)
Paper: Kraft, Tangerine Tango, white
Accessories: black embroidery floss, dimensionals, sentiment computer generated (Pea Jenny Script)

MyGrafico Monday - Tickled Pink

I love my job....but wouldn't it be nice to be retired, too! I guess I have the best of both worlds being a teacher because the summers are like a mini retirement. I love not having a schedule to adhere to - probably because my schedule at school is soooooo hectic. I travel between two buildings daily, so there's never a dull moment.

This week's MyGrafico Challenge is all about RETIREMENT!! Can you believe that I've never made a retirement card? I started to last year, but May's my busiest month so I just grabbed some at the store. Now I have one in my stash!

This week we're giving away this fun flamingo set.

All you need to do is: Create a retirement card (MyGrafico images are highly encouraged, but not required) and post a direct link to your card on the MyGrafico Challenge blog by Sunday at 10pm PST. When you post your card to online galleries, please use the tag/keyword 'MG17'

Here's my take on the challenge:

and the inside:

Hope you have a great Monday and can't wait to see what you come up with for this week's challenge!

A Little Perk Me Up

A while back I emailed Jennifer, the designer of the Zenware line at MyGrafico, about creating appliance stamps. After seeing the toaster from the Cosmo Cricket Early Bird line, I wanted stamps like it to create cards with fun sentiments. Jen has been soooooo awesome and created a terrific set. Here's my first creation with it:

With the percolater image, I used the Cheer Up set from My Cute Stamps to add a fun face and the steam cloud. I love how I can add a variety of expressions to other stamps with this set. I made another coffee pot that looks a bit sleepy.

And how perfect b/c the challenge over at MoxieFabWorld is to create a card with a household item as the focal point! I think I have a couple more up my sleeve before tomorrow night's deadline!

Details:
Stamps - Vintage Appliances (MyGrafico); Cheer Up (My Cute Stamps)
Ink - Night of Navy, Tuxedo Black (Memento); Copics (B23 & B32)
Paper - white cardstock (Georgia Pacific), Night of Navy (Stampin Up); dp - Bright Tints Yellow Gingham (Paper Pizazz), Alex's Random Dots (The Paper Studio), Alex's Plaid (The Paper Studio)

Fly Me To The Moon!

What's a good day for you?

I love that lots of things make up a good day for me:
- sleeping in (not today)
- waking up to a clean house (strike two)
- no time restrictions (ugh!!)

BUT.....here's what made today a GREAT day for me:

- I made a bunch of people feel good or happy. From handing my coworker the card (from yesterday's post), to complementing another on her chic green (Spring Moss) outfit, to chatting (and mostly listening) to one of my seniors about college planning. I love my job and I really hope you feel the same way about yours :)

- I came home to find a package in the mail from my super duper UBER sweet pal Kelley. Kelley sent me some love (in PTI dp form). What a combo in that girl - pure talent and pure kindness!!

- And finally (I'll spare you with any more bullets....for now...tee hee), I signed up for the Stampin Around Philly event being held in November. My SCS get together gal, Erin, got the ball rollin' and I'm so excited that a bunch of us are registered and excited for November to get here!! Anybody else going? I'd love to know!!

Alright Stephanie....get to the card!!

Paper Crafts is holding a challenge for September - create a Clean and Graphic card. I knew I wanted to use some of my American Crafts Teen collection dp, and this is what I came up with:

Love it paired with the sentiment from PTI's Everyday Button Bits. It's such a simple card, but I think it's really cute!I hope you've had a great day and that it carries into the weekend :)

Details:
Stamps: Everyday Button Bits (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: StazOn black
Paper: white, American Crafts Teen Collection - Detention
Accessories - black felt tip marker

CAN Buy Me Love

When I saw this card by the phenomenal Debbie Olson in July, I knew immediately that I had to have the Everyday Button Bits set from PTI and I had to CASE her card.

Here's my take:

I just love how pretty this image is from the set! And it's perfect for so many things including the reason I made it. The computer lab aide, who 'lives' next door to me (at the school), just lost her cat to a terrible accident. I wanted to give her a little note to brighten her day and let her know I'm thinking of her. I'm such an animal lover and still miss my chubby pooch Lucy, so my heart really goes out to her. I'm off to give my little furball Coco a little extra love - even if she fought with me all night for rights to the craft table.

Details:

Stamps - Everyday Button Bits (Papertrey Ink)

Paper - white, Basic Grey's Urban Prairie - Petticoat

Ink - New Leaf

Accessories - buttons, ribbon (Offray), pastels, embroidery floss, dimensionals, Nestabilities

Rubber Romance - Hoot If You're Cute!!

It's been a great day!! I feel better, my PTI order from last night's release shipped, and I got a fabulous email from Susan Opel at Paper Crafts mag telling me that one of my cards is going to be published!!! YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :) (plus now I get to show you the rejects - which I personally really like :)

I've been on cloud nine and creating away - and high on my agenda was inkin' up my Rubber Romance stamps! Let me just say that I have an awesome Halloween treat in the works! For tonight, I thought I share this scallop circle card I made using the RR Cutie Pie Owl. I colored a bunch of these cuties last night to go along with this American Crafts paper. I just love the whimisical look :)

I think this card would cheer up anyone! So I think I'll stick it in my desk drawer at school for that moment when you know someone needs a smile :)

Stamps - Rubber Romance Cutie Pie Owl and Hi sentiment
Ink - Tuxedo Black (Memento); Copics
Paper - American Crafts Teen Collection - Sadie Hawkins; Melon Mambo, white, black

hello friends

I'm feeling a little better except that I've had a dull throbbing headached all day - how much chicken soup & orange juice does a person need to consume to kick a cold I ask you :)

I went three different directions with this card. I knew that I wanted to use this fun paper from the American Crafts Teen collection (Honor Roll). Plus I wanted a long card - good for my long winded notes :) I tried two different images, but it just wasn't working for me. No biggie - now I have some colored images all ready to go for another time! I added the chipboard stickers and a little chipboard button and VOILA...a quick & simple card!

I'm off to finalize my PTI order - boy oh boy....whatta release they have goin' on!!! Hope you're enjoying the final fling of summer - we have about 1 week left!! I'll be back tomorrow with some Rubber Romance goodness :)

Details:
Stamps - none
Ink - none
Paper - Honor Roll - Teen collection by American crafts, white
Accessories - black grosgrain ribbon, embossed curves punch, chipboard stickers (Paper Studio), chipboard embellishment (Colorbok)

MyGrafico Monday - Fall is (almost) here

UGH....I've been sick all weekend with a cold and I think between the cold, the meds, and the overabundance of OJ & Chicken Soup my mojo just couldn't keep up. Hopefully this is my one and only bout of stuffy head, sneezing, runny nose, aches & pains, sore throat, coughing, "I want to trade in my body" weekend - yep, I'm a BIG baby when I get sick....thank goodness it doesn't happen often.

Enough of that! On to a new challenge for the MyGrafico Challenge Blog- and what a fun one we have in store for you!! It's a 1 - 2 - 3 challenge: 1 digital image, 2 designer papers, 3 embellishments. This week the design team is featuring the MyGrafico Autumn Elements sets:

And here's what I came up:

Sounds like a fun challenge - doesn't it!?! You should join in! Just create a 1 - 2 - 3 card and comment with a direct link to your card on the MyGrafico Challenge blog by Sunday night at 10pm PST. You could win the Autumn Element set!! Plus...if you need some digital images to play with, MyGrafico offers tons including freebies. There are new sets available everyday!!

Monkey See Monkey Do

Just a super quick post - I had Open House at my school last night and took a personal day today to spend some time with my dad while he's on vacation, so I'm super tired and tomorrow's picture day. I'll need to sleep until next month to make a school photo look decent :)

Here's the photo of the card I made for the last (ever) swap I signed up for - a monkey card swap:

I love how the DCWV Animal Crackers paper looks with Changito (Stampendous), and I love how this card could be used for so many purposes :)

Details:
Stamps - Changito the Monkey (Perfectly Clear Set - Stampendous)
Ink - Tuxedo Black (Memento); Copics (E33, E35, R27, G99)
Paper - Chocolate Chip, Real Red, white, dp - DCWV Animal Crackers matstack

Please Read :)

Today I received a comment concerning my blog's header. I love this header - added it shortly after starting to blog. I found the 'noncopyrighted' image on another website and thought it wasn't a problem to use. You can imagine how terribly I felt when the comment was from the talented artist who created the image wondering why I hadn't credited her nor checked for her permission.

I quickly emailed Ellia, who turns out to be super sweet not to mention UBER talented. She graciously accepted my apology and was totally understanding. I can only imagine how it would feel to go to numerous sites to have people using your creations without crediting you or even worse as their own. By the end of the day, she even provided me with the new, improved header with the copyrighted image :) I changed the look up a bit to celebrate!

Now for the reallly IMPORTANT stuff - Ellia's company, greenbeanbaby art, is AWESOME. She creates all kinds of hand cut art - so much cuter and original than any Jolee's Boutique embellishment. You can check out her stuff on Etsy and be sure to check out her blog. AND THERE'S ONE OTHER THING......she's awaiting the release of her very own stamps through Stamping Bella!!! There was a quick preview of the stamps on this blog post - check it out and you'll definitely understand why I'm super excited.

So......I still feel terribly that I haven't given greenbeanbaby art the credit for all the time I've used her fab image in my header, and I'm very thankful for her understanding and generousity. I hope that you (the best readers in the universe) will check out Ellia's blog & etsy shoppe and stalk Stamping Bella for the release of her stamps.

Hip-Hippo-Ray!!

Where does the time go? I had an extra long weekend, yet I still have a long list of to-do's....I swear my to-do lists only get longer!

I was happy to finish up the last set of tags for my swap. This one is for a kids' birthday, and I used a new stamp I picked up from Clear Dollar Stamps when I needed more tape for my ATG gun.

I just love this hippo!! I can see so many uses for him. Doesn't he look great with the safari paper from DCWV - I love all the sparkle!! I'm so proud of myself using up the paper I have - in case you're wondering:

Paper Hoarder Challenge - 63 cards/projects down, 37 to go

I know some new stuff has come out for fall, so I'm working diligently to meet my challenge :) Participating in these swaps really helped along with the recent call for submissions to PaperCrafts mag.

Details:
Stamps - Hippo (Clear Dollar Stamps)
Ink - Tuxedo Black (Memento); Copics (C-1, C-3, BG10, RV42)
Paper - Chocolate Chip, Safari (DCWV), white, green (stash)

MyGrafico Monday - School Kids

It's Monday, MyGrafico is back, and so are the weekly challenges!!! Yahoo! I've been looking forward to this challenge because I got to try out an idea I had...better yet it worked!

Okay...so here are the challenge deets:
1. Create a card/LO/project with the Back To School theme
2. Post it on your blog or online gallery (please use keyword/tag "MG15")
3. Leave a comment on the MyGrafico Challenge Blog with a direct link to your card by Sunday night at 10pm PST.

And you could win this adorable set:

Here's what I came up with using the little gal with the over-the-shoulder bag:

It's a notecard to go with a lunch bag - perfect for field trips when you may not be able to send the regular lunch tote.

Here's a close-up of the notecard:

And the lunch sack:

I was able to print the digital stamp directly on the brown paper bag!! I had thought of this when I first heard about the challenge and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was!! I just set my paper size to 6" x 12", fed the bag into the printer, clicked Print, and voila!! I added the name before printing - can't you see so many possibilites with this!! I'm thinking the treat bags needed for holiday parties or even gift bags for coworkers :) I especially love how I was able to coordinate the notecard perfectly with the bag and each item had the perfectly sized image.

Details:
Stamps - School Kids (MyGrafico)
Ink - Copics (E35, E37, E51, R20, R32, R29, Y08, Y17, B24)
Paper - white, yellow (DCWV), Grade School dp (DCWV)
Accessories - scallop edge punch, black grosgrain ribbon (Ofray), Nestabilities (Label One) die, red brads, pastels, dimensionals, brown paper lunch bag, Pea Swimmy font

FREE!!!

I wanted to quickly post this. I need to visit some of my blogger pals and get some projects done before my company arrives. I'm always impressed with the freebies offered at MyGrafico , but this one takes the cake!! ...or should I say fruitcake :) The MyGrafico Artists worked together to create this collaborative holiday kit filled with digital stamps, digital papers, sentiments, and clip art and it's FREE!!! Just click on the image and it will take you to the download page. I can't wait to use Jennifer's (Zenware Designs) Santa popping out of the chimney! I guess the Christmas spirit has hit already!!

There's so much in this kit - I noticed more and more as I scrolled down. Enjoy!!

Happy Burg-day!

Wow - it's been a busy two days!! My dad called me last night to say that my aunt (who I haven't seen since I was a very young child) is coming to visit (aka - stop stamping and clean your house). She'll be here through Sunday, so we've been trying to plan meals and get togethers. School has started to become more routine, but there's still so much to do (aka - stop stamping and do work for school).

I made this card (and birthday bucks) for another student's birthday. You can see the original set here. He loves hamburgers and uses an image as his avatar on our classroom blogs, so I knew he'd get a kick out of it.

I thought the kids would like it if they each got their own unique card. This is probably best for me too b/c I'm terrible with the assembly line technique!! I had two birthdays to celebrate this week and decided to make two new cards and save the superhero in case I get in a pinch timewise. I have all of my students sign the card for the birthday boy/girl, and it's fun to see how excited they've gotten to see their classmate's card and predict what will be on their's. I've even got some requests - the elephant was fine, but I draw the line at a World of Warcraft card - like I know what a moonkin is anyway :)

Hope you have lots planned for the long weekend. I'll be cleaning, working on school stuff, and (you guessed it) stamping!!

Stamps - Fun Food (Stampendous)

For the Birthday Diva

I've been so anxious to ink up this Rubber Romance stamp - Paige Has A Present. I thought it was perfect for my adult birthday tag....couldn't you see this attach to some fab nail polish, or a bottle of wine, or a pair of shoes!!

The tag itself is pretty simple - image stamped on white, colored with Copics, glitter glue added along with ribbon, hole punched, and the stamped ribbon was tied on. And I bet you noticed the polka dots - I know I have a problem!! Hope my swappers enjoy them!

Details:
Stamps - Paige Has A Present (Rubber Romance)
Ink - Tuxedo Black (Memento), StazOn black (for ribbon stamping); Copics (Y00, YR00, YR20, E21, E51, RV04, RV10, RV29, 100)
Paper - Melon Mambo, white
Accessories - B&W dotted ribon (Michaels), white growgrain ribbon, black glitter glue

Best Witches

I'm still working on the tags for the swap I'm participating in, and I thought I'd share the Halloween tag I came up with. I still need to create adult birthday tags and kid birthday tags then I'll be all set to send them out!

I used one of my favorite Halloween images from my collection - Witches' Shoes (Stampendous). I've always loved this stamp, and finally bought it last year. It's so much fun! Especially for a shoe lover like me. In fact, I've been choosing my shoes then my outfit for school in the morning to try to wear more of my shoes rather than my favorites :) - I told my students that I was trying to wear a different pair everyday; and they reacted, "You have 180 pairs of shoes?" I don't know what's more alarming - they are so aware of how many days of school we have or they think 180 pairs of shoes is too many :)

Even though this image is one of my fav's, it was tricky to use on the tag. I wanted to make a vertical tag, but the image was too large. After a bit of playing around, I'm happy with how it turned out. I popped up the main image and added a typed sentiment (font: Digs My Hart) to the bottom of the tag.

Details:
